Paul Scholes' Bruno Fernandes blast leaves Ralf Rangnick with Man Utd decision to make

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has blasted Bruno Fernandes with an honest assessment, leaving interim boss Ralf Rangnick with a decision to make.

Despite being second best against Atletico Madrid for most of the night, United came away from the Wanda Metropolitano with a 1-1 draw on Wednesday thanks to Anthony Elanga's late equaliser off the bench.

It was a fantastic result for Manchester United who will now face Atleti at home in the second leg of their Champions League knockout tie in a very healthy position.

However, it wasn't all positive as Fernandes looked lost for large periods of the game, and it was noticed by former United midfielder Scholes.

Rangnick is still yet to find his best starting squad, and the German has been tinkering with it ever since replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in November.

Part of Rangnick's trial and error has been to play Fernandes at both the no.10 position, and the no.8 position depending on the type of opposition, and also what players he has at his disposal.

Fernandes looked lost for large periods of the game against Atleti, as he was overran in the midfield, but he silenced any critics with a late assist for Elanga who snatched a vital goal to take back to Old Trafford.

His performance led to a debate in the BT Sport studio over what Fernandes' best position is within the United team, and Scholes gave a brutal assessment as he offered his views on the situation.

"I think he can do it in certain games, don’t get me wrong but it’s only certain games," Scholes said on BT Sport. "At Burnley away, yes. Tonight, possibly because United will have a lot of possession.
