Paul Heckingbottom issues verdict on Sheffield United’s credentials as Reading clash looms

Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom has revealed that he believes that his side are a match for any side in the Championship when they are performing at their best.

The Blades are currently aiming to secure a place in the play-offs and are set to take on Reading at Bramall Lane on Friday.

Under the guidance of Heckingbottom, United have managed to avoid defeat in their meetings with Fulham and AFC Bournemouth who currently occupy the top two positions in the second-tier standings.

A superb solo effort from Iliman Ndiaye sealed all three points for the Blades at Craven Cottage in December whilst the Yorkshire-based outfit caused the Cherries issues in last week’s showdown at Bramall Lane.

Forced to settle for a point in this particular fixture, the Blades will be looking to retain their place in the play-off places by defeating Reading.

United currently hold a two point advantage over Blackburn Rovers who are set to face Peterborough United later this week.

Ahead of his side’s upcoming meeting with the Royals, Heckingbottom has offered an honest assessment of the club’s credentials.

Speaking to The Star, the Blades boss said: “All you can do is your best.

“And I’m convinced, so long as these boys continue to give that, they’re a match for anybody.

“I’d put them up against anyone.

“We’ve seen that on a number of occasions, when they play well, they take something.

“That tells you a lot about them.

“Not only ability wise, but also in terms of the mentality they’ve got.”

Heckingbottom does make a valid point here as the Blades have already illustrated this season that they are capable of competing with the teams who are currently leading the way in the Championship.
