Paudie Clifford succeeds brother David as Kerry captain
Paudie Clifford has been named as Kerry football captain for 2024, taking over the role from younger brother David.
Kerry remain one of the few counties that select their captain from the winners of the county championship, with divisional side East Kerry again taking top honours in 2023.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a tremendous year at club level, captaining Fossa to an All-Ireland junior title and East Kerry to a county championship.
He succeeds David, who captained the Kingdom last year to All-Ireland final defeat to Dublin, with this being his second time to lead his county.
He also captained Kerry during the Covid-hit 2020 season when the green and gold suffered a shock defeat to Cork in the knockout Munster championship.
Paudie made his Kerry debut that year and has won an All-Star in each of his three championship campaigns. The forward, who often operates in defence at club level, has an All-Ireland medal from 2022, as well as well as two Munster titles and three national league titles.
Tomás O'Connor of Crotta O’Neill’s was ratified as Kerry hurling captain for the year ahead.
