Pau Torres could get dream Manchester United shirt number after transfer on one condition

A summer of change and transformation is beginning to gather pace at Manchester United.

Since Erik ten Hag officially took over as manager last Monday, former interim boss Ralf Rangnick has left the club and Andy O'Boyle has been installed as United's new deputy football director. United supporters will now be hoping that just as many changes are made to the squad over the coming weeks.

The transfer window officially opens on June 10 and United are set to be active, with several positions in need of strengthening. The club has already been linked with several potential new additions, including Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona and Leeds ace Kalvin Phillips, with the strengthening of the midfield department set to be among the top priorities.

But it is not just in midfield where United need fresh blood. They also need reinforcements at the back, both at right-back and centre-back. Ajax ace Jurrien Timber is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, while Villarreal ace Pau Torres is already of significant interest.

Torres has been tracked by the club for a lengthy period of time and the Manchester Evening News understands that Ten Hag has been consulted about the possibility of signing him this summer. The Spaniard — who played a key role in helping Villarreal reach the semi-finals of the Champions League this season — is considered as one of the best centre-backs in La Liga and is reportedly valued at around £50million.

Therefore, if United were to lure him to Old Trafford, especially without the attraction of Champions League football to offer him next season, it would be a big statement of intent. Tottenham Hotspur have also been
