Patrice Evra told he's making a 'mistake' by opponent ahead of boxing clash

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has been told by his boxing opponent Adam Saleh that he 'made a mistake' in choosing him to fight at the O2 in London.

Evra will step in the ring for the first time on April 30 in a celebrity bout against YouTube star Saleh, who has 4.78million subscribers on the video platform. Saleh has had three fights, winning two and drawing one and has called himself the best YouTube boxer.

Evra's training is well underway, with the ex-France international posting pictures on social media of him donning the gloves and saying that he was 'ready to learn' and would enter the ring with 'humility, respect and excitement'. The fight takes place on the undercard of a billing headlined by a fight pitting the Iranian Hulk against the World's Scariest Man.

Saleh has now spoken out about the fight, saying that Evra and his PR team should have chosen an easier fight due to the fact that Saleh was going to effectively end Evra's boxing career before it began - although the 28-year-old did pay respect to a multiple Premier League-winning defender.

“They showed like four or five opponents to Patrice Evra and I was one of them," Saleh told the Sun. "Him and his PR team chose me, and they made a mistake. He’s starting his boxing career - but I’m about to end his boxing career.

“They truly believe that he can knock me out, that’s what they told me through the phone, ‘Are you ready for Patrice Evra to knock you out’. But you know, I’m just happy and grateful to share the ring with a football legend from Manchester United, who was team-mates with Cristiano Ronaldo.”
