Paris 2024: Róisín Ní Riain advances to 100m breaststroke final maintain medal push

Róisín Ní Riain has maintained her push for a third Paralympic medal after advancing to tonight's SB13 100m breaststroke final at La Defense Arena.

The 19-year-old, who has already picked up silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 200m individual medley, will take her place in tonight’s final at 6.33pm Irish time.

Ní Riain is the reigning European champion in the event having set a PB of 1:18.00 in April, and is likely to need to threaten that time as she qualified as third fastest from the morning's heats.

The Limerick teenager posted a time of 1:19.05 in finishing just over two and a half seconds down on heat winner Rebecca Redfern.

Olivia Chambers of the United States also posted a faster time in her heat.

"I wanted to get out and have a good morning swim into tonight," she told RTÉ Sport. "It's a case of job done. I’ll have look back at the race and see where I can improve on for later."

Ní Riain will make her final apperance of a memorable games back at the swimming arena tonight where she is hopeful another medal is a distinct possibility.

"That’s always the aim of the evening swim," she said. "I just need to clean up a few little things and see where that will get me this evening."
