Pair charged over Manchester man's death on M62 four years ago

A man and woman have appeared in court charged in connection with the death of a man from Manchester after a collision on the M62 motorway.

Owen Baugh, who was 23, was described by his family after his death as 'a true gentleman alike no other'.

Mr Baugh, from Charlestown in north Manchester, was riding a red Suzuki motorbike when it was in collision with a black Audi A4 on the westbound carriageway of the motorway in the early hours of Sunday, April 25, 2021.

The collision happened between junctions six for Tarbock Island and seven at Rainhill Stoops at around 12.20am. He was taken to hospital for treatment, but sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

Now, nearly four years later, Steven and Lisa Naylor have both been charged with offences in relation to the crash. Both appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday, in order to face the respective counts against them.

The former, aged 40 and of Spinney Close in St Helens, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth. He was not asked to enter pleas to alleged offences of causing Mr Baugh's death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice, reports The Echo.

Lisa Naylor, also of Spinney Close in St Helens, pleaded not guilty to a charge of perverting the course of justice, which states that the 39-year-old 'falsely represented that Steven Naylor was medically unfit in order to avoid prosecution for road traffic offences' between April 25, 2021 and October 8, 2024.

The two defendants were released on conditional bail ahead of a further hearing on March 21, with a 10-day trial scheduled for November 10.
