Padraig McCrory lands big fight with Jason Quigley's conqueror Edgar Berlanga
Belfast's Padraig McCrory has landed the biggest opportunity of his career after confirmation that he will face rising super-middleweight star Edgar Berlanga in the US in late February.
McCrory, 35, has been a professional for six years and fought 16 of his 18 fights in his home city.
It represents a big step up in class and also a long-awaited chance to step into world title contention.
Berlanga (21-0, 16 KOs) takes on his second Irish opponent in a row after widely outpointing Jason Quigley to retain his WBO NABO title at New York’s Madison Square Garden Theatre in June.
The clash with McCrory on 24 February will be promoted by Matchroom Boxing at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.
Berlanga will see the fight as a further step towards a showdown against unbeaten Jaime Munguia (42-0, 33KOs)
