Paddy McGuinness admits ‘I can’t do it’ as he details ‘nerve wrecking’ career move

Paddy McGuinness detailed his nerves ahead of stepping out on stage during Wednesday’s episode of This Morning. The TV star spoke to hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley about going back to stand-up comedy after eight years.

However, the 51-year-old revealed it hasn’t necessarily been easy going back to his roots as he spoke about some of the fear he has before performing to crowds of people.

He told the ITV stars: “It’s weird because it’s nerve-wracking. Every time, even when I’ve done arenas and everything in the past, I always get that moment, just before I go on stage, where I think, ‘I can’t do it’. I’m freaking out! But when you get on and you do the first five minutes and people start laughing, it’s a lovely feeling.”

Cat praised Paddy’s confidence and confessed the prospect of doing stand-up is terrifying for her. She detailed how daunting it is to be the only person on stage with a microphone expecting to make large crowds of people laugh.

Elsewhere during the interview, Paddy told Cat and Ben people were enjoying his show so far, although admitted it isn’t suitable for families.

Recalling the warm-up nights, he admitted he wasn’t worried about what to say, but knew certain things could be taken out of context.

He added: “Everything these days can be taken out of context and clickbait and everything else. I just thought, ‘If I stress about that I’ll never get up on stage.’ So I’ve done it and it honestly has been brilliant.”

Although he took a break over the Christmas months, Paddy is back on tour and explained he’s heading down South towards Cornwall next.
