Paddy McGuiness reveals dad had to pull out teeth own amid NHS dental crisis

Paddy McGuiness told of how his dad desperately pulled out his own teeth after struggling to access a dentist. The Top Gear host, 50, discussed the topic while grilling MPs on BBC's Question Time on Thursday night (February 8).

The comedian appeared alongside Conservative Deputy Chairman James Daly, Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting and others on the public affairs show, which is presented by Fiona Bruce. Paddy questioned Daly about how the NHS is being handled, including the Tories' failed promise to invest £350 million into the health service.

They also discussed the dental crisis, which comes as a new £200 million NHS dentistry plan was unveiled this week, which will see dentists offered cash to accept new patients and given £20,000 incentives to work in under-served communities. It follows a surge of demand for people struggling to access NHS dental care, while thousands of children were admitted to hospital with tooth decay last year amid a surge in extractions, according to new data.

However, Paddy shot back: "It’s been announced this week because there’s an election around the corner, that’s why you’ve announced it."

This sparked huge applause from the audience in the show's Nottingham studio. When Fiona asked if it was time to bring out the pliers, the panel discussed how people had pulled their teeth out at home. Paddy weighed in: "Funnily enough my dad did that.

"He took his own teeth out because he couldn’t get a dentist
