Out of contract Greg Richards ‘not sure’ where future lies with Hull KR

Hull KR prop Greg Richards says that he doesn’t know whether he has a future with the club beyond this season with his contract nearing an end.

Richards linked up with the Robins on a one-year deal ahead of this season. In doing so, he made a return to Super League having spent two years in the Championship with London Broncos.

Speaking ahead of KR’s game against Catalans Dragons this weekend, Richards admitted that his next steps remain unclear.

“I’ve not really spoken to anyone at the club about it yet,” said Richards.

“I’d like to stay at this club because I enjoy it here. The lads are good, I enjoy the city, and it’s a great club.

“I wasn’t expecting to play as many games as I have been doing but I’ve put together some performances which I’ve been quite happy with- I hope to continue that until the end of the season.

“I didn’t really have any expectations [when I joined]. It was more about having another shot at Super League for me. I’d never worked with Tony [Smith] before or many of the players here either. I’ve loved every minute of being here so far.”

Richards’ own future may be undecided as yet, but his boss’ isn’t. Head coach Smith is leaving Craven Park come the end of the campaign. He will be replaced by fellow Australian Willie Peters.

Asked whether he intended to step up his performances to try and impress the new boss, Richards added, “You always want to be delivering.

“I don’t think that there’s a good time – or a good reason – to start playing at your very best.

“I want to do that every week. I’m still going to work towards doing that until the end of this season.”
