Osorio (concussion) progressing, eyes World Cup

Canadian midfielder Jonathan Osorio told reporters Wednesday that he is progressing in his return from a concussion and is optimistic he will be ready for the World Cup in November.

Osorio added he has suffered from post concussion syndrome, causing neurological dysfunction. 

"I've seen a good amount of progress the last couple weeks, especially the last week. I'm feeling more myself ..I feel like I'm in a really good spot right now," Osorio said via Michael Singh of MLS.

TSN's Matthew Scianitti reports Osorio's next few weeks will be focused on finding a balance between neurological health and building toward match fitness.

The Toronto native took an elbow to the head on July 13 against the Chicago Fire and has played a total of 18 minutes since an Aug. 20 match against Inter Miami. The 30-year-old scored nine goals and added six assists while starting 20 of 23 games he appeared in this season for TFC, his 10th with the club.

Osorio was named to Canada's initial 27-player roster for friendlies against Qatar and Uruguay in preparation for the FIFA World Cup, which begins on Nov. 20 in Qatar, though Osorio was sidelined for each game.

Osorio also discussed his future on Wednesday, telling reporters he and Toronto FC have had conversations about a new contract but he will not make any decisions until after the World Cup. Osorio emphasized his ties to the city but did not dismiss the idea of playing abroad or with another team in MLS.
