Orta can solve Marsch's huge Leeds issue as talks begin for £18m ace dubbed "the best" - opinion

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Ugurcan Cakir to Elland Road in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report by Turkish media outlet Fanatik (via Sport Witness), who claim that Victor Orta and his Leeds United transfer team have contacted the Trabzonspor goalkeeper’s agent ahead of a potential move for the 25-year-old at the end of the current campaign.

The report goes on to state that both Newcastle United and Sevilla are also interested in a swoop for the Turkey international, for whom the Super Lig side are believed to be demanding a fee in the region of €20m (£18m) in order to part with this summer.

While both Illan Meslier and Kristoffer Klaesson are undoubtedly exceptionally talented goalkeepers, with Meslier being 22 years of age and Klaesson just 20, in addition to the fact that Leeds have shipped a league-high 67 goals so far this season, it is perhaps unsurprising that Orta is targeting a more experienced option between the sticks ahead of the Whites’ 2022/23 campaign.

And, considering just how impressive Cakir has been for Trabzonspor this season, it is clear to see why the Leeds sporting director would be interested in a move for the 25-year-old this summer.

Indeed, over his 28 Super Lig appearances in the current campaign, the £15.3m-rated shot-stopper has kept nine clean sheets, as well as conceding just 0.8 goals and making 3.6 saves per game, with these returns seeing the ‘keeper average a quite remarkable SofaScore match rating of 7.18 – ranking him as Abdullah Avci’s sixth-best player in the top flight of Turkish football.
