Original animation artwork collection up for sale at Maxwells auction

Stockport-based auction house Maxwells is currently preparing for its next monthly auction - and is excited to have a special set of artwork up for sale at the event.

Taking place at the saleroom on Levens Road on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16, Maxwells' upcoming auction will include a lifetime’s collection of animation artwork from a local estate.

The original prints and sketches depict a range of famous cartoon characters from Cosgrove Hall Productions and similar animation companies, including the BFG, Count Duckula, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Danger Mouse, and more.

Whether you saw them on the silver screen as children, parents or grandparents, the character sketches are a wonderful callback to days gone by, and would make a fantastic addition to any home or nursery wall.

The estate’s collection also includes hundreds of animation production and sequence sketches, hand-painted animation cells, and reference materials - such as books, magazines and comics.

In addition to the wide selection of artwork, this month’s auction features unique and decorative antiques, a music section, and a range of silver and jewellery, with a number of Georg Jensen and Vivienne Westwood lots.

You can also find a range of paintings and second-hand furniture on offer, perfect to furnish your home or study.

For those looking for a project and a campervan, there will also be a VW Leisure Drive HT Crusader campervan from 1984 on sale, with a recorded mileage of 35,743.

It needs some TLC but would be worth checking out - especially if you’re looking to embark on some adventures and staycations as the weather improves!
