Opinion: The numbers suggest that Celtic like to get games won early

Celtic are currently the top scorers in the Scottish Premiership, having scored 54 goals. That is a good record, and hopefully the Hoops will add to that total against Aberdeen at Pittodrie tonight.

Celtic have scored those goals in a variety of times, and footystats.org has broken down the Hoops are most likely to score this season.

There are three times in the game when the Hoops have scored the most goals. Celtic have nine goals in the 11th to 20th minute, the 21st to 30th minute, and the 81st to 90th minute.

Those numbers suggest that Celtic are likely to score towards the start of the game, and the very end of the game. Indeed, that is what happened in Celtic’s last visit to Pittodrie, the Hoops scored in the 11th and 84th minute.

What you can take away from those numbers about Celtic’s style of play is that the Hoops are keen to find the back of the net in the opening stages of the game, even if that means that a goal isn’t scored in the first 10 minutes.

The numbers also show that the Bhoys are willing to go to the very end of the match to find an all important goal. 

Interestingly, when it comes to away games, footystats.org shows that the Hoops are more prolific in the first-half of games. Ange Postecoglou’s team has scored 17 goals in the first-half, compared to 9 in the second-half. That first-half stat is impressive as it takes in 13 games.

Celtic’s first-half prowess away from home was shone just recently, as in the game against Motherwell the Hoops scored three in the first-half compared to one in the second-half.

What you can take away from that statistic is that the Hoops like to try and get games, especially away games won in the first-half.
