Opinion: Imminent Celtic arrival can't be final signing of transfer window
It seems that a few weeks without completing a signing, Ange Postecoglou is set to his ranks as Celtic manager, as reports suggest that 31-year-old midfielder Aaron Mooy is going to join the Hoops on a free transfer.
Mooy is a player that Postecoglou knows well, and if he thinks that he former St Mirren man can do a job for the club then his judgement should be backed.
However, should Mooy complete his move to Celtic Park that shouldn’t be the end of the signings this summer, as the Hoops are still in need of at least another two signings before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
There are two signings that Celtic need and have done so for a number of weeks, and that is a centre-back and a defensive midfielder. What might be stopping the Hoops getting the deals for those players done is the number of fringe players at the club, maybe the Bhoys need to get some players out before more come in, but that hasn’t stopped the club making a move for Mooy.
Perhaps, and this would be slightly more concerning, Ange Postecoglou doesn’t feel that the Hoops need to sign either a centre-back or a defensive midfielder, and the Bhoys will be able to cope this upcoming season without either new arrival.
That would be a concern especially when it comes to the Champions League, as at the moment the Hoops don’t seem to have the squad which would have an impact in the biggest club competition in football.
There is no way that Aaron Mooy, if he does complete his move to Celtic Park, should be Celtic’s last signing of the summer transfer window. The Hoops really do need additions in both defence and midfield before the window closes.
As it stands at the moment, if Mooy was the last signing that Celtic made this summer then the
