Opinion: Celtic star's comments should strike fear in Hoops' opponents

Celtic striker Kyogo gave a rare interview to Celtic TV as he continues his comeback from the hamstring issue which kept him out of action for almost four months.

The Japanese international has played three games for the Hoops recently, making his first start since December against Ross County, a game in which he scored his first Hoops goal in four months.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the interview was that Kyogo feels that he can get even better as a player, and he wasn’t satisfied with his performance against Ross County.

“I had other opportunities that I should have taken and I should have scored. So, I have a lot of objectives still to overcome, and I still think I can grow as a football player and make my quality of play better” he said.

First of all, it is refreshing to hear the player feel that he can up his performance level, when you consider all he has achieved for the Hoops this season, that will surely please Ange Postecoglou.

Secondly, that comment will likely strike fear in the Hoops’ opponents, as if Kyogo can improve his game like he wants to, he would be the best player in Scotland by a considerable distance.

It can be argued that he was the best player in Scotland up until his injury which kept him out of action for over a third of the season. He was probably well on his way to 20 plus goals for the season, and the Hoops could have made a better fist of the Europa Conference League tie against Bodo/Glimt if he had been available for selection.

As it stands, the 27-year-old has scored 17 goals this season, and the hope will be that he can reach the 20 goal barrier in the Bhoys’ four remaining games this season.
