Opinion: Celtic ability identified by Chris Sutton could help win title

Looking back at some of Celtic‘s recent wins, the Hoops haven’t been at their best. In the last three wins achieved by the Bhoys, against Aberdeen and Dundee in the Premiership and Raith in the Scottish Cup, the team struggled at times, but still managed to get the job done.

That was identified by Chris Sutton in the wake of the win over Dundee, where he took to Twitter to praise Celtic’s ability to win ugly.

The ability to win without playing well is something that the current Celtic side is more than capable of doing. You only need to look at the wins at Aberdeen and Ross County earlier in the season, or the victory over Dundee United at Celtic Park last month.

In each of those games, Celtic haven’t been at their best but have still come away with the win, which shows the will to win that the team has, and credit has to be given to Ange Postecoglou for how he has managed to put together the current Celtic team in such a short time and have it top of the Premiership table.

The ability to get an ‘ugly win’ will be even important as the Hoops draws to a close. At the time of writing, the Hoops have two away games in the next few weeks, against Hibernian and Livingston, which look to be tough matches on paper.

There is a real chance that Celtic won’t be at their flowing best in those games, they could well be hard-fought battles. Should that be the case, the Bhoys might well have to get an ‘ugly win’ once more.

The fans surely won’t mind that, as at this stage of the season it is all about getting the three points no matter how you perform on the day.

A comfortable win would obviously be better, but any win at Easter Road or the Tony Macaroni Arena, two grounds where Celtic have struggled in the past, will do for the title
