One Show viewers in tears as segment 'restores faith in humanity'

Viewers of BBC magazine programme The One Show were moved to tears on Thursday night (July 20) by an inspirational segment of the show. Each week a feature called One Big Thank You highlights people who've gone the extra mile to help others in their community - and this time it was the turn of a pair of sports coaches.

Vickie Smith and ex-professional player Allan Cockram have set up a number of teams at their club the Brentford Penguins including one for those with Down's syndrome, an over-50's men's mental health team and a women's walking club. Members of the groups contacted The One Show to say how much Vickie and Allan had "changed their lives", and the duo were invited onto the programme under a different reason in order to be surprised.

Holding back tears, One Show host Alex Jones told them: "This is your One Big Thank You - now you've got me going!"

One Show viewers commented on Twitter as the scenes played out on TV. Amy Joanne @AmyJoanne__ said: "What a beautiful big thank you to two beautiful souls!"

Mike @mikepriestley13 said: "What a lovely thing that couple are doing!" while LP @loispp said: "I could have watched that couple hugging those kids for the whole 30mins!"
