On this Day: Chelsea conquered Liverpool and Real Madrid for Champions League and FA Cup finals
May 5th seems to be a historic day for Chelsea football club. From knocking out Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final to beating Liverpool in the FA Cup final. The date seems to ooze in victory for the Blues.
It's ironic to think that both of these teams that Chelsea has collected historical wins from are now confirmed to play each other in the Champions League final. Who would have thought?
I can't tell you who I think would win that tie, but I can tell you just how Chelsea managed to beat both sides on this exact day.
Roman Abramovich's biggest Chelsea managerial mistake highlighted again by Pep Guardiola failure
The fact that Manchester City was unable to beat the Los Blancos in their semi-final clash last night just goes to show how incredible Chelsea was last season. They beat all the odds and played Real Madrid in a comfortable 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge. It was a spectacle to remember.
Despite Covid-19 regulations subjecting us all to becoming armchair fans, the occasion was extraordinary. This time last year, Chelsea fans worldwide were celebrating the win that sent them through to the Champions League final for the first time since 2012. A Timo Werner header and a Mason Mount tap in sealed the deal for the Blues. Not to mention Edouard Mendy's exemplary performance up against one of the best strikers in the world, Karim Benzema.
It's lovely to remember such a day, especially considering the mighty effort that Chelsea put up against Madrid just a few weeks ago. Having fallen short to a cruel extra-time goal courtesy of Luka Modric, Chelsea was knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-final. They may have beaten us this time around, but we will never forget the events of last season.
