Olympic boxer Emmet Brennan aiming for pro debut with New York Garden party on Katie Taylor undercard

Seven months on from representing Ireland at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Emmet Brennan is ready to hang up the amateur singlet and set sail on a Stateside adventure into the professional ranks.

The genial Dubliner secured his place at the Olympics against all odds, combatting injuries and a lack of actual sparring to stamp his ticket to the Games and fulfil a childhood dream, however, now Brennan believes that his future lies in the paid ranks of the sport.

Brennan's plan is to up sticks and base himself on the east coast of America, working his way up through the super middleweight division on the mean streets of New York City, hoping to draw on the massive Irish support in the famous five neighbourhoods of the Big Apple.

As chance would have it, that Irish Stateside support will be out in their droves in April to witness what is being billed as the biggest fight in women’s boxing, as Katie Taylor puts her undisputed lightweight world titles on the line to take on Amanda Serrano.

And Brennan believes that the sold-out Madison Square Garden event would be the perfect time and location to announce his arrival in the professional game.

"I had a lot of time to think after the Olympics and had to weigh up my options. And at my age, if I chased the Paris 2024 Games, I’d never go pro, so it’s now or never," said Brennan, speaking to RTE Sport.

The thirty-year-old is currently in talks with promotors in New York, however, Brennan has conjured up a clever campaign to speed up the professional process by launching a social media charm offensive looking to appeal to the renowned Matchroom stable and head honcho Eddie Hearn.
