Oli McBurnie lifts lid on Rangers transfer talks that happened every year until now

Oli McBurnie has revealed he has been in talks to sign for Rangers on several occasions down the years but says that there was no contact from Philippe Clement about a potential move to Ibrox earlier this summer.

The Scotland international – who has declared his love for the Light Blues throughout his career – koined La Liga side Las Palmas on a free transfer in July after five years with Sheffield United. The striker has already caught the eye in Spain and led the line in a 1-1 home draw with reigning La Liga and Champions League holders Real Madrid earlier this month. The Leeds-born forward has since been joined by former international teammate Scott McKenna who arrived in Gran Canaria last month following his release from Nottingham Forest.

Speaking on Open Goal, the 28-year-old admits that he had held discussions about a switch to Ibrox in recent seasons and that this summer was the only time that no one from the club has reached out to him. McBurnie also adds that he would still love to pull on the Rangers colours one day. He said: "To be fair this was the only year when I've not heard anything from them. There's always been talks but nothing has really come of it - whether it has been the right time for me or them. 100 per cent I would like to at one point in my life but it's not been the right time for me to do it."

The 28-year-old has 16 Scotland caps to his name. but has not been involved in Steve Clarke's squad since March 2021. McBurnie concedes that he wasn't able to make an impression at international level but hopes that some good displays against top opposition in La Liga can resurrect his Scotland career.
