Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roy Keane on same wavelength - but ex-Man Utd boss snubbed

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roy Keane are still on the same wavelength from their time at Manchester United - even if the former Red Devils boss was snubbed by the Irishman.

The two old team-mates have a deep mutual respect for one another after spending the majority of their career at Old Trafford. They were integral parts of Sir Alex Ferguson's squad that just could not stop winning.

Both have their legends already forged at the club with countless memories that United fans will keep with them to the grave. That includes their famous Treble winning season in 1999, where Solskjaer's late double against Bayern Munich won them the Champions League.

But that was not enough to earn a spot in Keane's all-time United XI - which left him where Fergie opted to utilise him mainly - on the sidelines. On the contrary, the ex-United captain was one of the first names on the teamsheet for Solskjaer.

Back in 2020, Solskjaer was manager of the Red Devils and was asked to pick his dream six-a-side from his old teammates at the club. He picked Edwin van der San in goal with Jaap Stam in defence. Ahead of them were Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo and Keane.

Perhaps losing count, Solskjaer said: “Edwin probably, maybe David [de Gea] but maybe I can’t pick the ones I’m managing so I’d pick Edwin as the keeper. I’d have to have Jaap at the back. Giggsy would play with his skills. Cristiano, me, Keano and Scholsey. How many is that?”

But Keane had a very different look to his own team with the Norwegian not making the cut.
