Old Denton Baths site could soon become new apartment block

The site of the Old Denton Baths could soon be transformed into an apartment block.

Prior to its demolition in 2020, the swimming baths had fallen into a state of disrepair, leading to the relocation of the leisure facilities to the new Tameside Wellness Centre. The old plot has been vacant ever since.

New life could soon be brought to the Victoria Street site through a new apartment block containing 35 new homes - if plans are approved.

Developers Collaborate Living Ltd And Irwell Valley Homes say all the apartments would be available for affordable rent, up to 80 per cent of market rate.

Sitting next to Victoria Park and in close proximity to shops, schools and health centres, it is being touted as an ideal location for new homes. The three-storey building would have 11 apartments on the ground floor and 12 apartments on the two upper floors.

They would be a mix of one and two-bed flats. Ample space for cycle storage and 24 parking spaces are also included in the plans.

Private gardens and a shared communal garden adjacent to Victoria Park have also been mooted by the applicants.

The initial plans were grander in scale, as the current plans up for decision are smaller than the four-storey, 46-home plan originally put forward. After public consultation and discussion with local MP Andrew Gwynne, the developers made a decision to modify the design.
