Oilers' Evander Kane undergoes successful knee surgery, needs 4-8 weeks to recover

Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane was expected to need four to eight weeks of recovery time after undergoing successful knee surgery, the NHL team said Friday.

The procedure, performed Thursday in Edmonton, came almost four months after he underwent abdominal surgery. Kane will pause his current rehab to recover from the latest operation, the team said in a statement.

It's unclear if Kane will be able to play at all this season.

He was expected to need a minimum of five to six months to recover from his previous operation, which repaired both abductors, two hernias and two abdominal tears.

Specifics on the knee procedure were not provided. Kane, 33, was expected to hold a media availability later Friday.

Kane had 44 points (24-20) over 77 games for the Oilers last season. He had eight points (4-4) over 20 playoff games last spring to help the Oilers reach the Stanley Cup final.

Selected by the Atlanta Thrashers with the fourth overall pick of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Kane has 617 points (326-291) over 930 career regular-season games.
