Oasis manager denies rape allegations as police launch investigation

Oasis manager Alan McGee has denied “a number of unfounded and hurtful” allegations after police launched an investigation into two claims of rape.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they had received a report of two alleged incidents of rape of a woman by a man. One was said to have occurred in Southwark, South London, and the second on May 22 in Kensington and Chelsea, West London.

The force said that enquiries are ongoing, the Mirror reports.

I will not be making any further comment at this stage.”

Scottish businessman Mr McGee, 62, who co-founded independent label Creation Records, is best known for discovering Oasis. He signed the Mancunian band on the spot after watching them perform at Glasgow music venue King Tut’s in 1993.

Little more than a year later, the fivesome released Definitely Maybe, the smash-hit debut album that made them Britain’s biggest band.

In a recent interview, Mr McGee remembered his first time seeing brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher’s band on stage, saying: “They were playing Rock ’n’ Roll Star, another song and then Up in the Sky – at that point I said, ‘I’m signing them.’

“Then, for the fourth song, [they said] they were playing a Beatles song.

“I thought, ‘Aw, this s***’ because it’s always s**t when bands say they’re going to play The Beatles. And they f***ing nailed it.”
