Oasis issue statement amid rumours of Knebworth show on anniversary of massive 1996 gig

Oasis say they will not be playing any shows at Knebworth in the near future. It follows claims the band were weighing up the possibility of gigs to mark the anniversary of their legendary performances there.

The band played to a quarter of a million people in the grounds of the Hertfordshire stately home in the summer of 1996 which have now gone down in legend. They were immortalised in a live album and a documentary released in 2021. Liam also played two solo shows there in 2022.

Late last month, the owner of Knebworth House invited the band back for a "shindig" to mark the 30th anniversary in 2026. Henry Lytton-Cobbold, who owns Knebworth House, joked: "Wembley is a reasonable warm-up venue for Knebworth. Then get ready for a nice huge 30th shindig in 2026.

"That's what the people want and they seem pretty good at doing what the people want. It would be a great way to have the best party of all parties." Reports in the national press yesterday (Tuesday) suggested the band were open to the idea of a return in 2026.

However a statement on the band's page on X, formerly Twitter, issued on Wednesday afternoon, they said: "Contrary to reports in some UK tabloid media today, Oasis will not be playing Knebworth Park in the future.

"There are no plans for any further UK dates beyond the currently announced UK stadium tour." After burying the hatchet Liam and Noel are playing 19 dates across the UK and Ireland next July, August and September.

An estimated 10 million people are said to have joined online queues for the roughly 1.4 million available tickets for the gigs, which sold out in a matter of hours
