O'Rourke secures gold medal shot with dominant win in Strandja tournament semi-final
Roscommon fighter Aoife O'Rourke will box for a gold medal after winning a decisive victory in her semi-final in Sofia this afternoon.
O'Rourke, who competed at the Tokyo Olympics, delivered a dominant performance against Russian opponent Anastasia Shamonova, winning 30-27 on all judges scorecards and upgrading her bronze medal to a silver, at least.
The Castlerea middleweight had already guarenteed a bronze with a unanimous victory over France's Davina Michael on Thursday.
Later this afternoon, Olympic gold medallist Kellie Harrington will contest her semi-final in the lightweight division against Kazakhstan's Rimma Volossenko.
