O'Mahony and O'Riordan drafted into Ireland squad

Republic of Ireland manager Vera Pauw has drafted two defenders, Eabha O'Mahony and Claire O'Riordan, into her squad for next Tuesday's testing 2023 World Cup qualifier away to Sweden.

O'Mahony (Boston College) and O'Riordan (MSV Duisburg) were on standby for the squad but have now been called in as defensive cover as preparations begin in the FAI National Training Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Liverpool defender Megan Campbell has remained at her club to receive treatment for a knock and will be assessed over the coming days.

19-year-old O'Mahony (three caps to date) departed Cork City last season for a scholarship with Boston College, while 27-year-old Limerick woman O'Riordan (17 caps) - a three-time WNL winner with Wexford Youths - has been plying her trade in the Frauen-Bundesliga since 2018.

Ireland currently sit second in Group A of their 2023 qualification campaign, with two wins, a draw and loss from their four games thus far. The Swedes, however, sit top with an 100% record and are expected to coast through the preliminaries.
