NWSL stars play final matches ahead of World Cup
Lynn Williams and Allie Long scored in Gotham's 2-1 win at home against the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday in the National Women's Soccer League.
Williams scored less than a minute into the second half when she collected a throw-in and turned quickly to chip a shot into the far post with her left foot.
After returning from a 50-minute lightning delay, the Red Stars equalized in the 55th minute. Cari Roccaro ran onto a cutback pass from Sarah Griffith and slammed her shot into the goal.
Bianca St-Georges of Saint-Charles-Borromée, Que., played the full 90 minutes for Chicago.
Williams's seventh goal this season was her last before departing for her first World Cup. She was named to the U.S. roster for the upcoming tournament in Australia and New Zealand.
