Nursery gets inspectors' seal of approval with 'good' rating

A Partington day nursery has received an overall "good" rating following its first inspection for six years. Gillitots was visited by Ofsted on June 13 and was judged to be "good" in assessment categories for quality, personal development and leadership.

But for behaviour and attitudes it was said to be "outstanding". The nursery, on Warburton Lane, looks after 45 children aged one to four and employs 10 members of staff.

Inspector Denise Farrington reported that children "are firmly at the heart of everything that happens in this warm and inclusive nursery". She said: "Children eagerly settle to a wide range of opportunities that reflect their unique interests and encompass possibilities to practise new skills, particularly in the well-resourced garden areas. Babies delight in confidently exploring."

Ms Farrington said there had recently been changes in the staff team, partly because of the pandemic, but also due to periods of maternity leave. She said that the nursery "faced significant challenges" in recruiting new staff and went on: "Both the provider and the manager work within the playrooms in order to bridge the gap in recruitment.

"However, while this has provided some opportunities for coaching alongside staff, the manager has been unable to offer rigorous and highly focused supervision for all staff."

The nursery's safeguarding arrangements were described as "effective". When the nursery was last inspected in 2016, its overall effectiveness was judged to be "outstanding".
