NUMBERS | Is Lyle Foster South Africa's most expensive soccer player transfer ever?

South African football was under the brightest spotlight in recent times as Lyle Foster secured a big money move to England's Championship log leaders Burnley on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee.

If reports are to believed, the fee is in the range of €7 million (R131 million), which could rise to €10 million (R187 million) if the Clarets are promoted to the Premier League, which would make him the most expensive South African footballer in history.

According to an inflation tool, McCarthy's move to Celta Vigo would cost a whopping R182 million in today's exchange rate, higher than Foster's current price tag of €7 million (R131 million).

Steven Pienaar enjoyed relative success in England by plying his trade for English Premiership giants Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

After joining Tottenham from Everton back in 2011, he moved back to the Merseyside club in 2012 in a fee worth €5.57 million (R103 million), which could effectively be €6.9 million (R128
