Ntseki aims to turn Chiefs' good intentions into wins after another blip against City

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki is no stranger to that old friend, pressure, as his time as Bafana Bafana mentor gave him enough material to handle the challenges he currently faces with the Soweto giants.

Tuesday night at FNB Stadium was another blip for the 52-year-old as Amakhosi stumbled and fell 1-0 to a Cape Town City side clawing their way up from a dismal start to the 2023/24 campaign.

Khanyiso Mayo's calmly placed goal secured victory for Cape Town City and, in doing so, dealt another blow to Ntseki's team, which has suffered a fourth defeat in nine league matches.

In the same week that the club celebrated the launch of its own brand of potato chips, the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee (DC) took stern action against Chiefs after their disgruntled fans hurled objects at Ntseki on two occasions. 

The league fined the club R200 000 for the second incident and issued a warning that they could play one home game behind closed doors if their supporters misbehaved again within the next six months.

Ntseki, the club's seventh coach in eight lean years after he succeeded Arthur Zwane, has found managing Chiefs to be a complex challenge.

Turning around the fortunes of a club of Chiefs' stature, trophyless for eight years now, is a "process", especially with all the changes in personnel in the past two years.

In three transfer windows, Chiefs have brought 18 new players while also parting ways with several individuals they deemed surplus to requirements.
