'Now full concentration' - Leeds ace raring to go for Marsch's first game in charge
Illan Meslier has taken to Instagram to let Leeds United fans know he’s focused on this weekend’s match.
Meslier has been Leeds United’s undisputed number one since he was signed permanently in the summer of 2020 and has now become one of the busiest keepers in the league this season making the most saves and having conceded the most goals (FBRef).
The French keeper was signed for just £6 million under former manager Marcelo Bielsa but even with the Argentine having recently been sacked, Meslier shouldn’t have to worry about his future at the club given the backup is 21-year old Kristoffer Klaesson who’s yet to make a first-team appearance for Leeds.
However, despite seemingly being a guaranteed starter given the lack of competition, Meslier is taking nothing for granted posting on his Instagram that he has ‘full concentration on Saturday.’
TIF Thoughts on Meslier…
If new manager Jesse Marsch is to ensure Leeds secure their Premier League status come May he will need Meslier to keep up his top performances from this season which has seen him rack up a 6.64 WhoScored rating, as they have some big games coming up against the likes of Wolves, Norwich City and Leicester City where they will be targeting a lot of points and a very unfamiliar clean sheet.
Meslier’s displays have attracted interest from some top European clubs though and if Leeds are to be relegated it may well be difficult to keep hold of him, especially if a club like Barcelona, who are reportedly interested in him, come calling in the summer.
