Nottingham Forest chairman aims 'desperate' dig at Derby County ahead of play-off final

Nottingham Forest have made sure to stick to every financial rule applicable to them during their push for promotion "unlike some other clubs", according to Reds chairman Nicholas Randall QC.

Forest are 90 minutes away from promotion to the Premier League as they prepare to take on Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final at Wembley. Regardless of whether they win or lose on Sunday (May 29), the Reds will "remain in good health" having strictly followed the English Football League's financial regulations.

In an interview with BBC Nottingham's Colin Fray, Randall appeared to compare Forest's healthy financial situation to the difficulties being faced by local rivals Derby County. "What's important is that this club isn't defined by one football match," he said. "The progress from when we took over needs to continue whether that is in the Premier League or in the Championship.

"We are desperate for it to be in the Premier League, but unlike some other clubs we have stuck by the rules. We have always maintained that sticking by the FFP (Financial Fair Play) rules and the Profitability and Sustainability rules are key to our objectives.

"If that means the bad outcome comes on Sunday, then we will still be well placed to have an effective campaign next season and the club would remain in good health. We would be able to acknowledge what we achieved this year and then aim to go one better."
