'Not available' - Rangers injury blow confirmed as GVB without star duo vs Red Star Belgrade

Glasgow Rangers’ team news and injury updates have been confirmed ahead of their game in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.

While the Ibrox faithful have been boosted by the return of Ryan Kent before the Red Star Belgrade clash, after he limped off against Dundee, they still have a couple of injury worries sitting on their shoulders.

Steven Davis has been suffering from recent calf and thigh issues, while Ianis Hagi is likely to miss the start of next season, as well as the remainder of this, as he continues his rehab from his knee problem.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference this morning ahead of the match, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that both Hagi and Davis are ‘not available‘ for the second leg against Red Star.

Hagi was to be expected, but Northern Ireland manager Ian Baraclough has claimed that Davis should be fit to play for the national team during the international break next week, so it’s disappointing he won’t be ready for Thursday.

It is certainly a blow for the Teddy Bears to be without Hagi and Davis for the second leg in Serbia.

Yes, they are 3-0 up from the first leg, but both would have been useful options to have in the squad for Gio, particularly the top level experience of Davis.

At 37 years of age, and the fact that he has captained the Light Blues a couple of times this season, Davis would have been a calming influence both on the pitch and in the dressing room, while Hagi has already shown his worth in the competition with one goal and one assist.

Nonetheless, the Gers will now have to find a way to hold off Red Star’s pressure without two of their key players.
