'No words' - Everton podcaster fumes as Patrick Boyland's news before Crystal Palace emerges

Everton podcaster Lee McClean was left fuming at the appointment of Stuart Attwell for their trip to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Attwell was on VAR duty when Allan was shown a red card after a review in the 1-0 win at home to Newcastle United on Thursday night, when on-field referee Craig Pawson originally only gave a yellow.

There seemed to have been some confusion over where exactly the contact was made, and ultimately whether it warranted a sending off. As such, the Goodison Park club lodged an appeal against the decision, which has since been rejected.

McClean, who co-hosts Everton podcast A View From The Bullens, was left fuming over the news from The Athletic journalist Patrick Boyland that Attwell will take charge of the match at Selhurst Park tomorrow.

He simply tweeted: ‘No words‘.

It is certainly a strange decision to appoint Attwell for this match, given the controversy surrounding him just a couple of days ago.

It is not the first time that he has caused controversy in a Blues match either, as a fan of the Merseyside club was heard blasting the 39-year-old during their 0-0 draw at home to Tottenham in November.

He has given 30 yellow cards and two reds to Everton in the 19 games where he has taken charge of them, and the Toffees have only won eight of the matches, drawing five and losing six (Transfermarkt), so it is understandable to see the frustration from McClean over his appointment.
