No luxury of settling in for Daniel Ricciardo as he intends to make 'immediate impact'

Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo anticipates a swift return to Formula 1 action with AlphaTauri, dismissing any possibility of a "slow start".

Following his departure from McLaren at the end of 2022 due to underwhelming performances, Ricciardo boldly decided to rejoin Red Bull as their reserve driver.

Currently, he has been called upon to replace Nyck de Vries, whose displays also fell short of the team's expectations. AlphaTauri has managed a mere two points this season, prompting Red Bull to trust Ricciardo's abilities.

Speaking to F1.com, Ricciardo emphasised Red Bull's desire for results: "They expect performances. It's challenging to define."

Acknowledging the pressure, Ricciardo believes that his performance benchmarks can only be determined once he takes the wheel: "Is it finishing eighth? Or perhaps fourteenth? I don't believe there is pressure."

Ricciardo acknowledges that his initial performances will rely heavily on his comprehension of the AT04, which has proven challenging for both De Vries and Yuki Tsunoda this season.

He aspires to "hit the ground running" with the team, capitalising on the knowledge he gained during his time away from the cockpit during the first half of the season.

"There are two races before the summer break. While I don't believe there is a strict deadline before August, I also don't foresee a sluggish start," Ricciardo confidently asserted.

"I intend to make an immediate impact and apply the lessons I've learned during this period of rest."

The Hungarian Grand Prix occurs on Sunday, 23 July, at the Hungaroring.
