No love lost for Jadon Sancho as Man United make Manuel Ugarte shirt number announcement

Manchester United have confirmed Manuel Ugarte's squad number, with the transfer deadline day signing inheriting the No.25 from Jadon Sancho after his loan departure.

The Uruguayan completed a €50million (£42.3m) switch from Paris Saint-Germain before the window slammed shut, with a further €10m (£8.5m) to be paid in add-ons at a later date. Anticipation builds to see the club's fifth summer arrival in action, and now supporters have discovered the digits he will don on his shirt as a United player.

Interestingly Ugarte is to take the No.25, which was vacated by Jadon Sancho not even 24 hours ago. With the necessary framework in place, United sealed the winger's loan exit to Premier League rivals Chelsea on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was of course subject to banishment by Erik ten Hag for the majority of the 2023/24 campaign following his social media response to his manager's reasons for leaving him out of the squad that travelled to Arsenal last September. He then spent the final half of the term on loan to Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho was to return this pre-season though saw no action in the opening two weekends of the campaign. His exit has now been confirmed, and although only a loan for the time being, the redistribution of his squad number would suggest the writing is on the wall, if this wasn't already established. Chelsea possess the obligation to buy next summer for a fee rising to £25m.
