"No doubt..." - Transfer insider now says Chelsea could end up moving for 344-goal star

Chelsea have wanted Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski “for years”, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Poland international is hoping to leave Bayern for Barcelona this summer, but Jones does not think that will stop Chelsea from making a move for him.

According to SPORT, Barcelona have had two offers for Lewandowski rejected by Bayern, who plan on making it difficult for their talisman to leave.

However, the Spanish outlet has stated that an agreement is likely to be found eventually because of the 33-year-old’s desire to depart the Allianz Arena for the Camp Nou.

£40.5m-rated Lewandowski is also thought to be on Chelsea’s radar, though a deal looks difficult given the player’s heart seems set on joining Barcelona.

Last month, The Guardian reported that the west London club could join the race for the former Borussia Dortmund man amid all of the uncertainty surrounding Romelu Lukaku’s future.

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Lewandowski has been on Chelsea’s shortlist for a while and could be someone they target this window depending on what happens with Barcelona.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: “They’ve wanted Lewandowski for years. There’s no doubt that they would try and sign him if they genuinely think there’s a chance. They’ll touch base on the situation if the Barca thing really does hold up.

“They’ve seen themselves that Lewandowski doesn’t want to be at Bayern. Bayern are trying to calm the situation down at the moment, but it’s very difficult to come back from moments like that.”
