Nine teenagers re-arrested on suspicion of the murder of 16-year-old Kennie Carter

Nine teenagers have been re-arrested on suspicion of the murder of 16-year-old Kennie Carter in Trafford.

Officers launched an investigation after the teenager tragically died in hospital after being stabbed in the chest. The attack happened in Stretford on January 22 this year.

Nine teenagers - aged between 13 and 17 - had already been arrested on suspicion of his murder. They were all bailed with conditions.

In an update issued today (June 15), Greater Manchester Police said all nine were re-arrested yesterday. Eight of the suspects have been re-bailed pending further enquiries.

One of the teenagers remains in police custody for questioning. Police said the murder investigation is 'continuing to gather pace'.

Kennie's family - who previously put out a heartfelt plea asking anyone with information to come forward - are being supported by specialist officers. Major Incident Team investigators have spoken to more than 50 people, gathered 100 hours of CCTV and executed a dozen warrants since the Thirlmere Avenue incident, the force said.

Detective Chief Inspector Alicia Smith, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: "Kennie’s death sent shockwaves through the community and has left a family still trying to come to terms with their loss of their loved one. Kennie was just 16 and had his whole life ahead of him and ever since that evening, our investigation has continued.

"Yesterday’s arrests are all part of our continued work to get the Kennie’s family the answers they desperately need. Anyone can contact us with information - no matter how insignificant it may seem - on 0161 856 9908
