Nine Man City players who could get squad number upgrade next season

Most heads associated with Manchester City may well still be banging following a weekend of wild celebrations but now attentions will begin to turn to the forthcoming season.

The fixtures for the next Premier League campaign will be announced today and it won't be long at all before everyone is back for pre-season preparations. With potential exits on the cards in the transfer window, some squad numbers could be available in the summer.

Whether it's City's senior stars looking for a change of jersey or exciting youngsters looking to upgrade from the sky-high digits they have started their careers with, there could be a lot of changes to the squad list before the new season begins in August.

Here are nine players who might be given an upgrade on their number this summer.

Julian Alvarez

It's been one incredible year for Julian Alvarez who has now basically completed football by the age of 23. The versatile forward had already won all the trophies he could in South America and has now won a European Treble as well as the World Cup.

After a successful if understated debut campaign, Alvarez will be hoping to make an even bigger impact next season. While the No.19 is by no means a bad number for an attacker, he might fancy getting an even better one. He won't get his hands on Erling Haaland's No.9 but the No.11 is available and numbers 7 and 8 could both become free if Joao Cancelo or Ilkay Gundogan depart.

Manuel Akanji

Nobody expected Manuel Akanji to have the impact he's had at City but the defender has been a near-ever present in a Treble-winning side, pushing the likes of Aymeric Laporte and Kyle Walker down the pecking order.
