Nienaber to name Bok squad to face Wales after URC play-offs

With the three-Test series just over a month away, excitement is brewing among Springboks supporters to see just who will make coach Jacques Nienaber's squad.

That wait, however, will have to be a little longer as Nienaber will only name his squad after the United Rugby Championship play-offs have taken place.

With the Stormers, Sharks and Bulls in those play-offs, it's easy to see why Nienaber would prefer more time to look at players pushing for a spot.

Speaking to Rapport, Nienaber said that for now, the focus should be on the URC.

"Our team announcement will only be done after the players have finished with their franchises," said Nienaber.

"Their focus should be there now, and they should not hear their national coach's voice.

"Of course, there is a certain group of players that we look at, and we keep an eye on them with a magnifying glass, but we do not want to announce a team too quickly.

"We will have a partial phasing in of players in our group; the players will join us as their teams drop out."

The Stormers, who finished second on the URC log, will face Edinburgh at home on Saturday, while the Sharks travel to Pretoria to face the Bulls in the second quarter-final involving SA teams.

The Springboks will face Wales in three Tests, with the first scheduled for 2 July in Pretoria.
