Nicholas Latifi: In-helmet cam footage emerges of qualifying crash
In-helmet camera footage of Nicholas Latifi’s crash during qualifying of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has emerged online, and it shows just how violent an experience it is when it goes wrong in Formula 1.
The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix takes place for a second time this weekend and, as we saw last year, the track’s nature lends itself to some pretty nasty-looking high-speed moments.
Indeed, Mick Schumacher ended up needing a trip to hospital for checks after slamming into the wall in his Haas car during Q2 of qualifying at the Jeddah Street Circuit, with that bringing out the second red flag of the session, following on from Latifi’s incident in Q1.
The Canadian lost control of his Williams in the first phase of qualifying on Saturday, and clipped two sets of barriers before coming to a rest, with his car damaged and his session over.
Indeed, he’ll now start the race right towards the rear of the field and he’ll just be hoping for a little less eventful afternoon after what happened earlier today.
Thanks to F1’s new in-helmet cameras, too, we can start to get an appreciation for what it’s like when a crash does happen, and it’s clear it was a pretty violent blow for Latifi who took his hands off of the wheel once control had been lost in order to avoid injury to his wrists and arms.

The drivers know every time they hop into that cockpit they are risking themselves, despite the brilliant improvements in safety in the sport in recent years.
Both Latifi and Schumacher had stark reminders of that today, and this camera footage certainly shows you just how brave you need to be to get back driving after
