NFL tight end Foster Moreau discovers he has cancer after Saints medical

NFL tight end Foster Moreau posted on Twitter on Wednesday he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma during a physical with the New Orleans Saints.

“Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me,” Moreau wrote. “During a routine physical conducted by the Saints medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I’m grateful for the support and thankful for the people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me and I will continue to seek their guidance.”

The 25-year-old Moreau added that he plans to eventually return to the NFL “and get back to doing what I love”.

Moreau is a free agent who played the previous four seasons for the Raiders. The team took him in the fourth round of the 2019 draft out of LSU. Last season, he set career highs with 33 catches for 420 yards. Moreau also caught two touchdown passes. He had visited with the Saints and Cincinnati Bengals in recent weeks as the free agency period started.

In a tweet posted by the Raiders, the team showed its support for Moreau: “Your Raider family is with you, Foster.”

Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr also reached out on Twitter.
