Newcastle United legends Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole nominated for Premier League Hall of Fame

Newcastle United legends Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole have been nominated for a place in the Premier League's Hall of Fame. The league began inducting legends of the competition in 2021, with fellow Magpies legend and the man with the most Premier League goals, Alan Shearer, inducted in the first class.

Ferdinand received his nomination for a body of work which includes 14 seasons in the division. Two of those were at St James' Park, where he scored 41 goals for Newcastle in just 68 Premier League appearances.

The former England international had his best goal scoring season of his career in 1995/96 as he scored 25 goals for Kevin Keegan's side. Sadly, the club fell just short of the title as they finished second in a close battle with Manchester United, which saw the Magpies finish only four points behind Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

Ferdinand became more of a supporting striker in his second season at the club, as Alan Shearer joined for a fee of £15million. Ferdinand's goal scoring subsequently took a hit, as he scored 16 in his second season. He subsequently moved to Tottenham Hotspur the season after and had struggles with injuries, never managing to break 15 goals in a single league season again. However, he did manage to score 12 in a season for Leicester City at the age of 37 in 2003/2004.
