Newcastle talks over £9.9m ace, could 'hit new heights' under Howe
Transfer insider Dean Jones would not be shocked to see Jonjo Shelvey handed a contract extension by Newcastle in the near future.
Shelvey has spent the last six years of his career at St James’ Park, and his time on Tyneside may be far from over just yet.
The £9.9m-rated midfielder has been a regular in Newcastle’s starting line-up this term after returning from a calf injury in October.
However, his contract is set to expire next year, meaning that a decision on his future needs to be made soon.
Newcastle appear to have made their mind up about the England international as it has been reported that they are ready to offer Shelvey a new deal to remain at the club.

Jones has suggested that Newcastle’s decision makes a lot of sense as he feels that Shelvey’s attributes suit the way that Eddie Howe wants his side to play, and he believes Shelvey could get even better in the coming seasons.
Reacting to the update on Shelvey’s contract situation, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Jonjo Shelvey, I’m not surprised at all, because I know he’s somebody they value, and in the playing style that Howe has, I think he feels that he could hit new heights.”
When Newcastle signed Bruno Guimaraes in January, some people may have taken this as a sign that Shelvey’s days at the club could be coming to an end.
Many would have expected Guimaraes to go straight into the starting line-up, and with Joe Willock and Joelinton thriving in Howe’s team, it appeared that Shelvey could be the man to be replaced.
Things have not panned out that way, though. After netting the winning goal against Leeds to kick-start Newcastle’s winning streak last month, Shelvey has gone from strength to strength
