Newcastle supporters torn over Nathan Ake as Eddie Howe reunion 'link' emerges

Nathan Ake looks like he will be leaving Manchester City this season - and Newcastle fans have wasted no time discussing a potential move to Tyneside.

The Dutch defender joined the Cityzens back in 2020 for a reported fee of £41 million from Bournemouth. But with City having the likes of Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones in their ranks, Ake isn't getting the game time he desires, only making 40 appearances in the two years he has been at the club.

The Athletic report Ake will be allowed to leave this summer and with the obvious links to Eddie Howe, speculation is rife a reunion could be on the cards this summer. But fans are torn over whether bringing in the left-footed centre-back would be a good idea.

One Newcastle fan wrote: "Always liked him! could be a good signing if price was right & main targets don't happen...Howe has worked with him before ...but we cant be linked with everyone I guess."

A second said: "If Eddie wants him, after having already worked with him, that’s good enough for me. While one simply replied "100%."

However many Newcastle fans don't feel he would be a good signing, either due to the current standard of the NUFC squad or other targets being named in the press.

"Why would anyone take him? City bought him for £40mil+ so he isn't going to be worth his fee, another left footed CB behind Burn and Botman isn't needed. We only have so much to spend and we need to be smart on players across the pitch, not just CBs." One fan replied. Whilst another said: "Don't think he's much of an improvement on what we have."

One fan said: "#nufc don't need another left footed centre half especially if they are gonna get Botman the centre half I would be looking at is Tabsoba at Leverkusen."
