Newcastle remain ahead of rivals in Paqueta pursuit with Magpies sent handy transfer message
Newcastle United are leading the pursuit for Lucas Paqueta, as the Lyon star could reportedly wait for the Magpies to approach.
Newcastle have been linked with a move for Paqueta for some time. They were active in the January window, and the same is expected in the summer.
Indeed, the Magpies will want to improve their squad, and attempt to return to the top end of the Premier League.
A move for Paqueta would no doubt add quality to the squad. The Brazilian has scored seven goals in 33 caps for Brazil – the highest rated national side in the world.
What’s more, he has shown his quality time and time again over the past couple of seasons at Lyon. The attacking-midfielder has bagged at least 10 goals and five assists in both of the last two terms.
As such, he should be a good signing for the Magpies, should they manage to land him.
Eddie Howe’s side are set to receive competition for his signature, though. Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Brazilian, as have Tottenham.
However, it seems Newcastle are ahead in the pursuit of Paqueta.
Chronicle Live reports that the star could wait for the Magpies to make their move.
Despite interest from other sides, the 24-year-old could reportedly stay put at Lyon for another season, should Newcastle not want to make the move this summer.
The situation in signing Paqueta seems an overall positive for Newcastle. It seems the star is keen to make a move to Newcastle, and will move whenever they see fit.
That means that they could prioritise weaker positions this summer if needs be, and then swoop for him at a later date. However, should they decide to sign him this season, they will be getting a player who has been in great form for the past couple of seasons.
