Newcastle 'ready' to test Wolves' resolve with £25million transfer bid

Newcastle United are reportedly ready to lodge a transfer bid for Wolves captain Conor Coady.

The Magpies, who are embroiled in a relegation battle, are desperate to strengthen in the centre of defence before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tomorrow night.

And, according to the Daily Star, Eddie Howe’s side are ready to pay in excess of £25million to sign Coady.

Newcastle, backed by their mega-rich Saudi owners, have been scouring Europe in a bid to improve their Premier League survival chances but have suffered numerous setbacks.

They have now turned their attention to a proven Premier League defender.

Wolves are under no pressure to sell the 28-year-old, who is a hugely popular figure around Molineux.

The Star report adds that the sale of Coady would only be sanctioned if Newcastle lodge a bid that is ‘too good to turn down’.

Coady’s current Wolves deal runs until 2025.
